Wolfsburg have a new Brazilian defensive midfielder, who's following in the footsteps of Josué (2007-2013) and Luiz Gustavo (2013-2017): Vini Souza from Sheffield United.

The 26-year-old has signed a contract with Wolfsburg until June 2030 and will cost the VW-club €15 million - which is the same as his market value, according to Transfermarkt and beats Amoura's transfer fee of €14.75 million, making Souza the most expensive Wolfsburg transfer this summer so far.

Souza, who joined Sheffield United in 2023 from Belgian outfit Lommel SK, made 76 appearances for the English side, but could not help the Blades avoid relegation. He then had a good season in England's second tier, but ultimately wasn't able to get back to the Premier Leage with Sheffield United.

Despite the team’s struggles, the Brazilian earned praise for his tenacity, ball-winning ability, and work rate in the heart of midfield — qualities Wolfsburg have been keen to add ahead of the new season.

Souza came out of the renowned Flamengo academy and is now looking ahead to the challenge in Germany, after having already played in Belgium, Spain and England:

“I'm very excited for the challenge and chance to play for Wolfsburg in the Bundesliga. The talks between me and the club have always been very positive and I instantly got the feeling that this club is the best place to take my next steps in my career. I can't wait to start here!”

Sporting director Sebastian Schindzielorz also commented on the transfer of Vini Souza: “Vini brings a lot of experience from different leagues. We've been following his career for a while now and are happy that he decided to come to us. We are convinced that he will help Wolfsburg with his abilities and his way of playing football.”
