After helping Schalke 04 secure promotion to the Bundesliga on a short-term deal, Edin Džeko could now have his stay with the Royal Blues extended.

According to Sport Bild, Schalke 04 have submitted an offer to extend the 40-year-old striker’s contract until 2027.

The promoted Bundesliga side are understood to be prepared to double Džeko’s salary to around €1.5 million per year.

However, the veteran forward reportedly wants to wait until after the World Cup with Bosnia and Herzegovina before deciding on his future.

When asked about the likelihood of Džeko staying, Schalke 04 boss Frank Baumann recently said:

"In my view, the chances are fundamentally good. Edin has indicated that he can absolutely imagine continuing his career physically - we can also imagine that he will continue to help us, both on the pitch and, with all his experience and professional attitude, also off the pitch."

Dzeko has scored six goals in 11 games for Schalke 04 so far.
