Freiburg secured a hard-fought draw in Augsburg by scoring twice in the space of two minutes after starting the second-half with the hosts doing the same in five minutes. Julian Schuster is satisfied with the result after they suffered their first defeat of the year against RB Leipzig in midweek.

“It’s frustrating that we went behind,” the Freiburg coach referred to their slow start after the break. “The reaction we showed with the fresh legs was very good, though. Then, we even scored a goal that was chalked off. Even if Augsburg created another chance, we can see the positives in the last half an hour.”

Igor Matanovic, who scored Freiburg’s equalizer, saw his second goal chalked off due to the ball crossing the line in the buildup. “Both teams had so much space (to create chances). I think we would’ve had the chance to win if we played better in a couple of situations.”

Freiburg will play two games at the Europa-Park in the space of four days as they host Köln after their final home game of the Europa League league phase stage against Maccabi Tel Aviv.
