After helping SC Paderborn secure promotion on loan, Dennis Seimen will return to VfB Stuttgart as the club’s new first-choice goalkeeper.

The 20-year-old is set to step into goal, with Alexander Nübel returning to Bayern Munich after three seasons on loan at Stuttgart.

“Dennis had a fantastic season in Paderborn. He is not an experiment; we fully believe he is ready for the role as our number one. There are no differing opinions within the club – we all share that view,” Stuttgart sporting director Fabian Wohlgemuth confirmed in an interview with DPA.

“Dennis is a young goalkeeper who loves competition and challenges,” he added.

“Even though he does not yet have the experience of a 35-year-old, he has consistently adapted extremely quickly to new levels of performance and quickly become an influential figure at each stage of his development – whether with Germany’s youth national teams, in the third division, or most recently in the second division with Paderborn.”

Stuttgart have also strengthened their goalkeeping department with the addition of Marius Funk, who joins from Energie Cottbus.

Veteran Fabian Bredlow will remain part of the squad, while promising 18-year-old Fabian Hellstern recently extended his contract.
