Stuttgart talent Ulrich receives second division loan-out

VfB Stuttgart confirmed a loan-out for developmental midfield prospect Laurin Ulrich yesterday.

After helping VfB II achieve promotion from the Regionalliga to the German third division last season, 19-year-old German midfielder Laurin Ulrich will spend next season playing for a club that itself achieved promotion to Germany's second professional footballing flight. The teenage talent - capped 24 times at Germany U19 level and below - scored three league goals and contributed ten assists for VfB II last season.

Ulrich has one top flight appearance to his credit, making a brief appearance as a sub in a league match against Leverkusen in November of 2022. Not unlike fellow VfB prospect Lilian Egloff, Ulrich has had bad luck with injury and illness. Stuttgart youth director Stephan Hildebrandt emphasized the the Cannstatt club will be monitoring the youngster's progress in Swabia in a club statement.

"Laurin is a young player who has already had a taste of the Bundesliga and in whom we see great potential," SSV managing director Markus Thiele noted in a club statement, Together, we want to take the next steps in his development and are convinced that he can help us in midfield with his style of play."

"It's time for me to take another step in my career and I'm really looking forward to the task at SSV Ulm 1846 Football," the player himself added, "The talks have totally convinced me of the club and I want to invest everything in the coming season to be successful with the team."
