Werder set to sign Southampton defender

Werder Bremen are close to signing Japanese right-back Yukinari Sugawara from Southampton, according to DeichStube.
The 25-year-old is reportedly in Bremen for his medical ahead of a loan move. It's unclear whether a purchase option will be included.
Sugawara made 30 Premier League appearances for Southampton last season.
He joined the Saints from AZ in the summer of 2024 for a reported fee of €7 million.
In addition to Sugawara, versatile full-back Isaac Schmidt is also expected to join Bremen on loan from Leeds United.
