Despite being second best for large spells, Karlsruher showed resilience and efficiency, with Marvin Wanitzek once again proving decisive for Christian Eichner’s side to secure all three points on the road.
Münster dominated the early stages, controlling close to 70% of the possession inside the opening 15 minutes, and came close to taking the lead through Zidan Sertdemir, whose dangerous effort flashed narrowly wide on the 20-minute mark.
The home side continued to apply pressure, but Hans Christian Bernat and the KSC back line stood firm, ensuring the contest remained goalless at the interval.
Just five minutes after the restart, Münster thought they had broken the deadlock, only for the goal to be ruled out after the referee judged Bernat to have control of the ball before it was knocked loose, a decision that sparked frustration throughout the Preußenstadion.
The match turned decisively ten minutes from time when Paul Jaeckel was sent off for bringing down Lilian Egloff following a mistake from Johannes Schenk. From the resulting free kick, Wanitzek curled a sublime effort over the wall and beyond Schenk, leaving the goalkeeper with no chance.
Wanitzek then wrapped up the points three minutes from time. After Rafael Pinto Pedrosa was fouled inside the area following a swift counter-attack, the KSC captain stepped up and calmly fired the penalty straight down the middle to make it 2-0.
A huge win for Karlsruher SC ends a six-game winless run and lifts them up to ninth place. For Münster, it was another frustrating afternoon in which they dominated for long periods but were left empty-handed, leaving them in 13th place.
