Leon Goretzka was given the special honour of lifting the Bundesliga trophy following Bayern Munich’s 5-1 win over 1. FC Köln, as captain Manuel Neuer handed it to him.

But for the 31-year-old central midfielder, who will leave Bayern after eight years when his contract expires this summer, another moment meant even more.

“The special moment for me was when I was with the south stand, spoke to the fans and they gave me words of encouragement," Goretzka said, according to DPA.

"That showed me I was and still am part of this family. I’m just proud of it.”

Goretzka still has one game left to play for Bayern – next Saturday’s DFB-Pokal final against VfB Stuttgart.
