After cruelly having his World Cup dream ended through injury, Christoph Baumgartner underwent successful surgery today, 3 June.
The midfielder was forced to go under the knife following the muscle injury he suffered before the international match against Tunisia.
As a result, Baumgartner will not be able to rejoin the Austrian national team for the 2026 World Cup in the USA, Canada and Mexico.
Instead, he will begin his rehabilitation soon and will continue it largely in Leipzig during the preparation for the 2026-27 season.
Austrian coach Ralf Rangnick was devastated that Baumgartner – off the back of a 17-goal campaign – was ruled out of his plans.
