Bremen eager to move on quickly after Bayern shellacking: "An outlier"

After admitting that his had been "smashed by brutal quality" on Saturday afternoon, SV Werder Bremen defender Niklas Stark called for a calm heads and a deserved break following the 0-5 thrashing at home.

Werder trainer Ole Werner and Stark's defensive colleague Anthony Jung contributed similar sounding sentiments. The overriding message seemed to urge the Hanseaten to move on immediately.

It was indeed not that long ago that SV Werder Bremen were commemorating a massive upset victory over German giants FC Bayern München. In point of fact, Ole Werner's Hanseaten accomplished that very feat the last time the two teams met in the league. Bremen beat Bayern 1-0 at the Allianz last January in the official start to the 2023/24 Bundesliga's "Rück-runde".

One can legitimately argue that it was Werner's team that began to knock the wagon wheels off Thomas Tuchel's FCB. This time around, SV defender Niklas Stark spoke on how his own team got "smashed under the tires" of the visiting Bavarians while commenting on a 0-5 loss at the Wseserstadion. Stark, head-coach Ole Werner, and defender Anthony Jung weren't in the mood to sugarcoat anything.

"We got completely run over," Stark told the Sky mics afterwards, "It's not easy against Bayern. Last time, we caught them at a moment when things weren't going so well for them. This was a tough game, football-wise and mentally. Tough to find the motivation to keep playing and pushing."

"There's not much to say really," Jung added in an interview published on Werder's website, "We were outplayed in every last respect and didn't have a chance. The defeat is fair. Even with a top performance, it would have been difficult against Bayern. We put up no resistance."

"We'll analyze the defeat tomorrow," Werner said at the post-match press conference, "but we know what [lack of] quality we showed today. We realize that we were playing against a highly superior opponent. We're not the first or last team that will realize this difference in class this year."

"We have to admit that Bayern's quality was a world above ours today," Werner continued, "We'll have to focus on the things that the team has done well recently and re-kindle this against a [struggling] Hoffenheim next week."

"Yes, I honestly think that would be a good idea," Stark said when asked if Bremen players - like their Bayern counterparts - might consider attending Oktoberfest to relax a bit, "One needs to get one's mind off things a bit in order to get over it quickly."

"We didn't plan on this, but can still manage to shake it off," Stark concluded with an optimistic twinge, "We shouldn't be dissuaded from our path. I think this was an outlier."
