Having joined Borussia Dortmund on loan from Gamba Osaka, 18-year-old Takato Yamamoto earned plenty of praise for his first appearance in Black and Yellow, scoring in a 3-1 friendly win over Rot-Weiß Oberhausen.
Based on his impressive first impression, Dortmund look likely to make the Japanese midfielder’s move permanent – especially considering that, according to Bild, they hold an option to do so for just €1.5 million.
Yamamoto was initially expected to feature for the second team, but if he continues to perform at this level, he could quikly force his way into Niko Kovač’s first-team plans.
“There were already some really good things there,” said Kovač after Yamamoto’s performance against Rot-Weiß Oberhausen.
“It wasn’t just you who noticed it, I was also watching very closely and saw some things that were genuinely very useful. He will bring us a lot of joy."
