Borussia Dortmund head coach Niko Kovač will be without his captain for the upcoming Club World Cup in the United States.

Emre Can will be unavailable for the tournament that runs from June 14th to July 13th as his adductor issues continues to sideline him.

A statement from Die Schwarzgelben this afternoon said the 31-year-old's problem has “not yet completely subsided”.

Can will complete rehabilitation in Dortmund, "so that he will be there immediately when we start preparing for the Bundesliga," said Kovač.

In addition to Emre Can, defensive midfielder Salih Özcan will also be out, according to Borussia Dortmund.

The Turkish international sustained a lateral ligament injury during international matches. BVB did not specify how long Özcan will be out.

Meanwhile, new signing Jobe Bellingham will replace Özcan in the squad. Borussia officially confirmed the Englishman's signing this afternoon.
