Frankfurt could sign SC Freiburg's Atubolu for cut-price fee

The lack of interest in the German goalkeeper could persuade SC Freiburg to sell Atubolu for less than their original asking price.

Under new coach Adi Hütter, Eintracht Frankfurt have decided favour Kauã Santos over Michael Zetterer as first choice goalkeeper.

With the latter slated to be a back up for the new season, the 31-year-old is considering leaving in search of regular game time.

As a replacement, the club has identified Noah Atubolu, who wants to leave fellow Bundesliga club SC Freiburg this summer.

So far, Freiburg's asking price for Atubolu, who is linked with clubs in the Premier League and Serie A, is reportedly around €25million.

However, according to BILD, Eintracht Frankfurt can realistically expect a significantly lower base transfer fee for the shot-stopper.

The main reason for this is the continued lack of concrete interest in the 24-year-old, whose contract also expires at the end of the season.

According to the tabloid newspaper, “15 million euros is therefore considered a realistic transfer fee,” with high bonus payments.

Initial talks have so far only taken place between Eintracht Frankfurt and Atubolu, not between the clubs themselves.

The Freiburg native could imagine a move to the Hessen club, but his salary demands would make him one of the highest earners.
