SC Freiburg have been sufficiently impressed enough with the performance of 18-year-old defender Bruno Ogbus to the extent that he's been rewarded with a new contract. The Swiss youth international joined the "Schwarzwaldverein" from Grasshopper Zurich, but only made his senior team debut this season.

Ogbus registered an assist off the bench in Freiburg's opening round Pokal victory over VfL Osnabrück. Since then, he's made two league relief appearances for Julian Schuster's team.

Freiburg's roster features plenty of veteran defenders for Schuster to deploy, but this weekend's result featured a weak defensive performance from the recently heralded back-four.

“Bruno had a great season with the U19s and caught our full attention with his appearances for the second team last year," SCF administrator Klemens Hartenbach noted in a club statement, "He has continued to develop seamlessly during training camp with the first team."

”His tackling and speed are striking," Hartenbach's statement continued, "He is also flexible in the defense. We are delighted to be able to help him with the next steps in his development."

"He brings incredible energy to the pitch, which helps inspire others," Schuster added, "He has an incredible amount to offer and shows great potential for further development."
