It was a sobering night for Werder Bremen who succumbed to a 4-0 defeat in Bavaria. Marco Friedl tried to look at the positives, praised Karl Hein and pledged to do better going forward.

"We had repeated moments of transition in both halves. Unfortunately, we didn't capitalize on them well. Instead, Karl [Hein] kept us in the game with sensational saves.

"And it's clear that Bayern will then showcase their quality and deservedly won by a large margin. We have to improve defensively in the next few games.

“That's why we have to analyze the game now and get our points against opponents who are on our level,” the Bremen captain added.

Head coach Horst Steffen was a little more critical of his side but admitted that Bayern were fully deserving of the win while his side have work to do ahead of Matchday 6.

"Playing against Bayern in their current form isn't easy. We tried to hold our own and, especially in the first half, capitalized on our moments.

"They were too strong for us today and deserved to win. There was more energy evident than in the closing stages against Freiburg.

“We have issues both offensively and defensively that we want to continue to address and then improve on in the upcoming match against St.Pauli,” Steffen explained.
