Hoeneß hints that son has exit clause in VfB contract: "Standard practice these days."

Speaking to the Sky microphones ahead of kickoff in Saturday evening's "Top Spiel", Sebastian Hoeneß' father - a part of his son's professional representation - hinted that the new deal the VfB trainer signed with his current club probably contains an exit clause.

Sebastian Hoeneß' father Dieter - asked to comment on the contract extension his son signed with Stuttgart in early Marchon Saturday - dropped strong hints that the deal does contain an exit clause that will allow the 41-year-old to depart this summer if he so desires. Dieter spoke to Sky Germany ahead of Stuttgart's Saturday evening league encounter against Frankfurt.

Sebastian remains heavily linked with Bayern's head-coaching position. While Dieter did take care to emphasize - as his son often has - that there have been no direct talks with Bayern yet, the father of Sebastian and brother of famous Bayern footballing functionary Uli left the door open for move to the German giants. Dieter went so far as to suggest that the contract extension was signed with this in mind.

"We knew that he was on Bayern's list," Dieter - a part of his son's professional advisory team - said, "We decided very early on to avoid jeopardizing the season with constant discussions and speculation."

"I think that's standard practice these days," Dieter said of exit-clauses in coaching contracts, "Coaches are sacked. Players can't be sacked. With a coach, it has to be the case that he also has the option of terminating an employment relationship if some parameters are not right."

Dieter's (not exactly earth-shattering) revelation may have some relevance for those convinced that Xabi Alonso's recent decision to extend with Bayer 04 Leverkusen may not necessarily mean that the Werkself trainer isn't on the move to the German record champs this summer.

As the recent matter of Julian Nagelsmann demonstrates, Bayern are not (and have never) been above splashing vast sums of cash to procure a head-coach even if the trainer doesn't even have an exit clause.
