Hoeneß serenaded by supporters after Bayern victory

VfB Stuttgart added another memorable victory to a season that supporters will never forget. After having their Champions League place confirmed on Wednesday, VfB celebrated in front of their supporters in style, overcoming FV Bayern by three goals to one.

It was party time in Stuttgart this weekend. After Borussia Dortmund's first-leg victory against Paris Saint Germain confirmed the Swabian's Champions League status for next season, VfB Stuttgart overcame Bayern Munich by three goals to one to add another scalp to their impressive season.

In a week in which the club surpassed 100,000 members, the MHPArena was once again sold out and in fine voice ahead of the fixture. And in a similar fashion to the supporters off the pitch, the side on the pitch did not disappoint.

Just moments after Serhou Guirassy saw his shot blocked off the line by Eric Dier, Leonidas Stergiou stabbed home from inside the box to give VfB a first-half lead. The goal from the Swiss defender was his first in the colours of Stuttgart.

“It’s absolutely incredible to have scored my first goal for VfB in front of such an unbelievable home crowd and against Bayern," he said after the game.

Despite Harry Kane's effort from the spot bringing the sides level before halftime, the feeling was that there was only going to be one winner as the home side continued to cause huge problems in the final third.

Late goals from Jeong Woo-Yeong and Silas capped off a fantastic week for the club and sparked scenes of incredible elation following the full-time whistle.

The rapturous supporters invited Sebastian Hoeneß into the Canstatter Kurve and shared an incredible moment after what has been an incredible campaign for VfB.

“We were very good in the first half. We’re very happy to have won today. It means that we’ve qualified for the UEFA Champions League under our own steam, which makes us immensely proud”, said Hoeneß.

VfB have a trip to Augsburg and a final day home fixture against Borussia Mönchengladbach remaining, and if Saturday's atmopshere is anything to go by, the final day clash with Gladbach is set to be a special occasion.
