TSG Hoffenheim sporting managing director Andreas Schicker has hinted at criticism of Julian Nagelsmann’s communication style after the German World Cup squad was announced on Thursday.

Hoffenheim goalkeeper Oliver Baumann was Germany’s first-choice goalkeeper throughout the entire World Cup qualifying campaign, but will go into the tournament as No. 2 after Nagelsmann opted to bring Manuel Neuer back into the national team at a late stage.

Reacting to this, Schicker appeared to hint at criticism of Nagelsmann’s approach.

“In the end, it is of course up to the national team coach whom he nominates or selects,” said Schicker, adding:

“As for communication and style, everyone can form their own opinion.”

According to Nagelsmann himself, although the decision was “a blow” for Baumann, the goalkeeper showed acceptance and full commitment to the team.
