Current BVB sporting director Sebastian Kehl confirmed his club's future plans for two players currently sitting on expiring contracts in a recent inter view with NRW's "Ruhr Nachrichten" newspaper. It had long been rumored that Dortmund had no desire to retain the services of German veteran Marius Wolf. Given the 24-year-old Spaniard's continued struggles with injury, continued cooperation with Mateu Morey had also been doubtful. Kehl confirmed the departure of both fullbacks.
We have informed Mateu Morey and Marius Wolf that we will not be renewing their contracts," Kehl said, "[Morey] had a lot of bad luck with injuries and was never capable of proving himself to us over an extended period. Marius had different phases, including successful ones as a German international. At the moment, he [Wolf] is interested in the opportunity of potentially gaining new experience abroad."
With two fullbacks on their way out, Kehl remained tight lipped about the future on Holstein Kiel loan-out Tom Rothe. The 19-year-old is due back in Westphalia following the conclusion of his loan stint with the recently-promoted "Störche". Kiel are nevertheless known to be keen on retaining him. Given Rothe's age, Dortmund themselves might be amenable to a renewed loan-out.
"He got promoted to the Bundesliga with Kiel and played in almost all the games," Kehl said of Rothe, "It's understandable that questions arise in this matter. We are thinking about how to deal with this. We will push ahead with our squad planning before we solve problems at other clubs."
