Leverkusen boss denies Fabregas snub: "No candidate has turned us down"

Bayer Leverkusen managing director for sport Simon Rolfes has dismissed reports claiming that Cesc Fabregas has turned down the possibility of replacing Xabi Alonso as head coach.

Recent reports have suggested that Cesc Fàbregas is no longer in the running to become Bayer Leverkusen’s next head coach.

But according to the club’s managing director for sport, Simon Rolfes, that isn’t the case.

Fàbregas, currently in charge at Serie A side Como, has recently hinted at staying in Italy, but no final decision appears to have been made.

“No candidate has turned us down at any point during the entire process,” Rolfes told Kicker following Leverkusen’s 2–2 draw with Mainz on Saturday.

He went on to express confidence that Xabi Alonso's successor will be appointed soon.

“I believe we’ll wrap this up in May. We’re in the final stages now, and it will definitely happen this month.”

Former Manchester United and Ajax boss Erik ten Hag is said to be the leading alternative should Fàbregas not take the job.
