"It takes a little while for that to sink in," RB Leipzig CEO Oliver Mintzlaff said after Saturday's DFB-Pokal final win over Freiburg.

RB Leipzig CEO Oliver Mintzlaff has reacted to the club's DFB-Pokal final penalty shootout win over SC Freiburg.

'Die Roten Bullen' were 0-1 down at the break, and things went from bad to worse for them, when Marcel Halstenberg was sent off just shy of the hour mark.

But despite being reduced to 10 men, Leipzig found the equaliser through Christopher Nkunku and eventually emerged victorious after extra-time and penalties.

"It's crazy. We played with ten men for 60 minutes. We started the game badly and needed to show another side to ourselves in the second half. It’s amazing that everything came together in the end. This is our first major trophy," said club CEO Oliver Mintzlaff.

"It takes a little while for that to sink in. We have to stop and look at what we have achieved in the last 13 years and in the six years in the Bundesliga. It’s fantastic. We’re really going to celebrate this one! It is a historic evening for us."
