"I'm someone who basically craves continuity and who doesn't want to play for one club one year and another the year after. So I made a conscious decision to make this switch," the 27-year-old Benfica loanee said in an interview with Gladbach's members' magazine 'FohlenEcho - Das Magazin' and elaborated:
"I quickly thought to myself that I feel comfortable here and could of course also imagine staying longer. Otherwise, I wouldn't be here now. What happens beyond that, we'll see, and that's not something I decide on my own."
Weigl joined Gladbach from Benfica ahead of this season on a loan deal which includes an option to buy for €15 million.
