Reports: Birmingham City interested in purchasing Bremen's Burke

Both an English and German source are currently reporting that Birmingham City are interested in signing Scottish striker Oliver Burke away from SV Werder Bremen.

Recently returned from a six-month loan-stint with Millwall FC, Scottish striker Oliver Burke's future with German parent club SV Werder Bremen remains unclear. The 26-year-old could conceivably remain in the Hanseatic City State, in which he still has a contract good through 2025. Burke actually enjoyed a relatively successful season for both his Bundesliga and EFL Championship club last season, scoring two goals for each.

In a recent interview with Bremen's "Deichstube" fan-site, Bremen sporting director Frank Baumann let it slip that Bremen might be willing to let go of Burke for the right price. Baumann also emphasized that he believed that the striker had "far too much potential" for the club to sell him off for a pittance.

England's "Birmingham Mail" and Germany's "Sport Bild" tabloid both report that Birmingham City are interested in purchasing Burke. Both sources report that an inquiry has, at the very least, been made. The one-time RB Leipzig prospect maintains a current estimated market worth of €2.5 million in the latest transfermarkt listings

Bremen themselves were recently able to re-sign starting striker Marvin Ducksch to a contract extension. The fate of Ducksch's partner in the starting XI, Niclas Füllkrug, remains unknown. The Hanseaten have already loaned out striker Eren Dincki out to Heidenheim and showed no real interest in retaining Wolfsburg loanee Maximilian Philipp.

Even with the Bremen striking corps looking to be thin, the return of 21-year-old Nick Woltemade after an incredibly successful loan stint with SV Elverseberg may still mean that there's no real playing prospects for Burke.
