Bayern boss wants Müller to stay for the rest of his career

Herbert Hainer is hopeful and optimistic about extending Thomas Müller's contract beyond 2024.
Bayern Munich president Herbert Hainer has expressed hope that Thomas Müller will remain at the club for the rest of his career.

Müller, 34, has spent his entire career at Bayern so far and is currently under contract until 2024, with the veteran and the Bavarians in talks over a possible extension.

Speaking to Bild TV, Hainer said he's optimistic the parties will come to an agreement.

"Thomas is an absolute Bayern icon and a player with great merits here. We all want him to finish his career in Munich. We're in talks, I'm optimistic and hope he will stay with us," Hainer told Bild TV.

"I think Thomas knows what he has at Bayern and we know what we have in him. As I said, I would like him to retire here and take on another role at Bayern after he retires, because he's a legend here."

Müller has two goals and five assists in 15 games this season.
