Two years ago, Paris Brunner decided to leave Borussia Dortmund for AS Monaco in a €4 million deal in search of more playing time.
He was then sent straight out on loan to Cercle Brugge for the 2024/25 campaign before being limited to just seven appearances for Monaco last term.
However, Brunner's situation has certainly changed since the start of the 2026/27 campaign, with the 20-year-old German attacker having scored six goals in seven games for Monaco so far this season.
His impressive form earned him his first Germany U21 call-up, and he responded by bagging an impressive brace on his debut in a 4-0 win over Latvia last week.
Given Brunner's remarkable performances, it has even been reported that Germany head coach Jürgen Klopp is keeping an eye on Brunner ahead of the next international break in November.
His resurgence has apparently also put him back on the radar of his former club Borussia Dortmund. According to Sky Germany, the Black and Yellows hold an option to bring the young attacker back to the club.
“I was told by two people at the club that there is a theoretical possibility of doing so,” Sky reporter Patrick Berger revealed on the podcast “Auffe Süd”.
“They have some kind of option in place – we just don't know the exact conditions at the moment.”
BVB sporting managing director Lars Ricken has previously said that “the door is not closed” for Brunner to return to the club in the future.
For now, however, the 20-year-old remains under contract with Monaco until 2028 and is enjoying the most productive spell of his career so far.
