Axel Witsel: We can reach the Champions League final

Borussia Dortmund are strong enough to reach the Champions League final this season, according to Axel Witsel.
Axel Witsel believes Borussia Dortmund are capable of reaching the Champions League final this season.

The central midfielder is eager to make amends for last season's disappointing round-of-16 exit against Tottenham.

"In my opinion, we have to do better than last season. I think we can make it to the final. But it depends on who we will face after the group stage," Witsel said in an interview with Kicker.

Meanwhile, Witsel is prepared to compete with Bayern München for the Bundesliga title once more.

"We have learned from last season's mistakes. Also, we have signed new players and have even more quality than last season. So I think we're better than last year," Witsel said.

"[Bayern] lost Robben and Ribery, but brought in Coutinho and Perisic. I actually think they will be even better with those two. It's clear we will have to fight with them until the very end, but we have to primarily focus on ourselves instead of paying attention to what Bayern are doing," he added.

Bayern won their seventh successive Bundesliga title last season, two points ahead of Witsel and BVB.
