Julian Brandt enjoys playing in 'optimal' central position

Julian Brandt is happy to have been moved to a central position.
Borussia Dortmund's Julian Brandt says he's enjoying his new position in the central midfield.

Brandt, who has played in different positions following his summer move from Bayer Leverkusen, admits he 'waited a long time' for his chance to impress in the middle of the park.

"For me, it's optimal. I feel really good there. I waited a long time to be able to show what I can do in the middle. When I played up top, I was also in a central position, but playing as a striker wasn't easy for me. I'm not a player like Romelu Lukaku. I wouldn't say I was in a slump before, but I sense that I'm on my way back to my old strength and feel really good on the pitch," Brandt said in an interview with Sport Bild.

The 23-year-old decided to leave Leverkusen for Dortmund in the summer, because he felt a need to get out of his comfort zone.

"Everything is just one size bigger here. The stadium, the surroundings, the pressure to perform, people's expectations and least but not least my own ambitions. After spending five and a half years at Leverkusen, I simply had to get out of my comfort zone to develop further and prove myself once again. That's the only way I can improve. A new club always means a new challenge and new competition. That's what I needed in the summer."

Brandt has made 23 appearances for Dortmund so far with six goals and four assists to his name.
