VfL Wolfsburg midfielder Maximilian Arnold has admitted he was disappointed not be included in Germany's squad for their World Cup qualifiers against Iceland, Romania and North Macedonia this month.

Having been key to third-placed Wolfsburg's success this season, the central midfielder feels he deserved a place in Joachm Löw's squad.

"It took me a few days to process the fact that I wasn't called up. I was disappointed. But the resentment is gone," Arnold told Sport Bild and added:

"It's true that there are great players in my position. But I've played 244 Bundesliga games and experienced a lot. VfL are playing well, I'm playing well. It wouldn't have hurt anyone if I had been called up. I can't understand it.

"Maybe Wolfsburg aren't a good club for you to put yourself in a position for a national team call-up, although that shouldn't be a reason at all."

Arnold, 26, hasn't featured for Germany since making his senior international debut in a friendly against Poland in 2014.

He has made 29 appearances in a Wolfsburg shirt this season with three goals and five assists to his name.
