Bayer 04 Leverkusen have signed Germany U19 international Luca Erlein from TSG Hoffenheim. The right-back signed a contract until 2030 with his new club on Saturday morning. According to Transfermarkt, the transfer fee is €2 million.
“Luca (Erlein) is a highly talented, intelligent and robust defender. We’re delighted to have completed this transfer,” said Leverkusen's managing director of sport, Simon Rolfes.
The 1.90m defender came through Hoffenheim’s youth ranks before playing regularly in 3. Liga last season for the second team. He made a single appearance for the first-team during their Europa League campaign in the 2024/25 season.
Bayer Leverkusen already have two players in their ranks from Germany’s U19 team that reached the final of the European Championship last month. Montrell Culbreath played regularly for the first-team in the second half of last season, while Francis Onyeka will spend the upcoming season at Elversberg after a successful loan deal at VfL Bochum.
A loan deal could also be a possibility for Erlein before the 19-year-old could step up to take a bigger role in Leverkusen. Carles Martínez’s side currently have vastly experienced Lucas Vázquez and Brazilian Arthur as options in the right-back position.
