The 36-year-old Cologne native has supposedly already informed his current club Hannover 96 of his desire to leave and return to his home town club as they begin to prepare for life back in the Bundesliga.

Having made more than 250 Bundesliga appearances over the course of his career, the 2014 World Cup winner brings with him a wealth of experience that could prove invaluable for Effzeh. It is believed that Zieler would be returning as a number two option, providing back up and competition to Marvin Schwäbe.

Despite having only renewed his contract with Hannover at the beginning of 2025, Zieler has often spoke of his longing for a return to the Bundesliga - meaning a deal wouldn't be too hard to strike up for Die Geißböcke, as they look to get the transfer over the line quickly.

Hannover 96 are reportedly already making moves to prepare for Zieler’s departure in the shape of Hoffenheim’s Nahuell Noll. The 22-year-old is expected to join on a season long loan without an option to buy.
