Sandro Wagner "likely" to take over as Augsburg coach

Augsburg are the latest club to be linked with Sandro Wagner, with Ligainsider reporting that the current Germany assistant coach is "likely" to replace Jess Thorup as head coach of the Bundesliga club.

Sandro Wagner is "likely" to be named the new head coach of FC Augsburg, according to LigaInsider.

Wagner has been linked with a host of Bunedsliga clubs since announcing that he will leave his position as assistant coach of the German national team this summer with the aim of taking on a head coaching role.

The report states that talks between Augsburg and Wagner have been ongoing for some time and are progressing positively, with an offer from Die Fuggerstädter already on the table for the former FC Bayern striker.

He could succeed Jess Thorup, who has faced criticism at times this season, with the latest setback being a run of three consecutive defeats

While a final agreement has not yet been reached, LigaInsider reports that it’s "quite possible" Wagner will soon be officially announced as Augsburg's new coach.

Previous reports have suggested that Wagner turned down an offer from his former club TSG Hoffenheim.
