Werder Bremen started the season with a 6-0 friendly win in Verden. After the game, Horst Steffen was asked about Bremen’s attempt to sign Fisnik Asllani from TSG Hoffenheim.

Steffen worked with the attacking midfielder in Elversberg’s remarkable campaign last season. Multiple reports are now saying Hoffenheim convinced the player to extend his deal with the club until 2029.

"I don't know if his decision is final. But if he decides against us, then that's the way it is," said Steffen.

"We expressed our interest to him – I think that's justified after everything we've experienced together.

"In the end, everyone makes their own decision. Everyone goes their own way, and I don't take anything personally. So far, I haven't heard anything official – so we'll see.”
