It’s been a challenging start to life at Liverpool for Florian Wirtz, who has faced criticism for his performances in England following his high-profile, big-money summer move from Bayer Leverkusen.

Within Germany, however, there seems to be no doubt that the 22-year-old will make his mark at Anfield once he settles in.

German Football Association sporting managing director Andreas Rettig is in no doubt that Wirtz will succeed.

"One thing is clear: Florian will establish himself at Liverpool; there’s no debate. No one can seriously claim that a player of his quality won’t succeed," Rettig told Sport Bild.

He also addressed Bayern supervisory board member Karl-Heinz Rummenigge’s comments that Wirtz would have been better off with the German champions.

"From a club perspective, I understand the comment about one of the best German players if he didn’t come to your club, it’s natural to feel some regret," he said.
