Toppmöller laments “unnecessary and bitter” defeat

Eintracht Frankfurt scored five in their Champions League opener against Galatasaray, but they failed to get a point from their last two Bundesliga games. Dino Toppmöller was left disappointed after their 4-3 home defeat to Union Berlin.

“This is a totally unnecessary and bitter defeat,” said Toppmöller after the game. “We got into the game well. “Through the late goal, we go into half-time with a positive feeling, and have the hope that it can still be our game.

“Normally, the number of chances and three goals must be enough to win this game. With so many simple possession losses, however, you can't win. In the last half hour, we ran with everything we had, threw everything in, and showed morale. That was extremely good.”

Frankfurt’s next game will be away at Gladbach, who picked up their first point and goal of the season in Leverkusen under their interim coach Eugen Polanski.
