Werder Bremen have confirmed the signing of Germany international Niclas Füllkrug on a season-long loan deal from West Ham United.

The 33-year-old forward returns to Werder three years after leaving the club for Borussia Dortmund, before later moving to West Ham United.

“We’re delighted to have been able to bring Niclas back to the club. Fülle made it very clear that he wanted to return to Werder,” said Werder Bremen head of professional football Peter Niemeyer.

“He knows the Bundesliga inside out and is someone who can make an immediate impact for us. We know that the last two years haven’t gone quite as he would have hoped, but we firmly believe he can enjoy a successful spell back at Werder.”

Füllkrug is delighted to be back at the Weserstadion.

“I’ve never made any secret of the fact that Werder is a very special club to me. That’s why I was also prepared to make financial sacrifices to make the loan happen. It was important to me to play for Werder again. I had some really good conversations with the club and I’m really looking forward to being back in Bremen and playing in the Bundesliga again," he said.
