2. Bundesliga: Ex-BVB striker Broschinski seals Karlsruhe’s win in clash of debutant coaches

Karlsruher SC started their 2. Bundesliga campaign with a 2-1 win over Arminia Bielefeld. New signing Moritz Broschinski got both goals for the hosts as Marvin Mehlem’s consolation strike came late at the other end.

Both clubs are coached by new men this season after they parted ways with Christian Eichner and Mitch Kniat, respectively. The former semi-professional poker player Maximilian Senft is the youngest 2. Bundesliga coach as he takes his first coaching role in German football.

For his opposite number, Oliver Kirch, it was even the first job as a head coach. The ex-Borussia Dortmund midfielder started his second career with a defeat after two goals from another former member of the Black and Yellows.

Broschinski, who returned to German football after a season in Basel, scored his first goal ten minutes before the break before doing the same in the second-half. Karlsruhe’s captain Marvin Wanitzek provided the assists for both goals, with the second coming from a corner-kick delivery.

Former Germany youth international Mehlem scored Bielefeld’s goal from a well-worked move ten minutes from time. Karlsruhe will be away at Kaiserslautern next week, while Bielefeld host newly-promoted Energie Cottbus.
