Bayer Leverkusen and Robert Andrich have agreed on a long-term contract extension.

The Bundesliga champions announced on Friday that the midfielder has signed a contract until 2028.

"Robert Andrich has developed into one of the central pillars of our Werkself and has also performed outstandingly on the international stage. Not least, his appearances for the German national team at the European Championship on home soil underline how far he has come in recent years," said Bayer Leverkuse managing director for sport Simon Rolfes.

“Robert is a leader, both on and off the pitch. He combines enormous tackling strength with footballing class and can use these qualities in a variety of positions.”

For 29-year-old Andrich, Leverkusen is “absolutely the right place”.

"I am experiencing the most successful time of my career and I feel that the hunger of the team is still strong after this special season," said Andrich.

“I am very much looking forward to continuing on this path together in the coming years and will do everything I can for my teammates, this special club and, last but not least, our fantastic fans.”

According to reports, Leverkusen turned down interest in Andrich from the English Premier League before extending his contract.
