Bayern Munich beat Borussia Dortmund 2-1 in the DFL-Supercup on Saturday, but Joshua Kimmich believes the performance left a lot to be desired.

Even if Bayern headed into the break 2-0 up, Kimmich was critical of the first-half performance.

“To be honest, I didn’t think the first half was that good. Of course, we were leading 2-0, but nevertheless, we have to say that we’re happy that we won today," Kimmich said, according to Kicker.

Kimmich admitted that Bayern are “still a long way” from reaching the level of performance he expects this season and have “a lot of work” to do.

“We weren’t active enough when we had the ball. We didn’t always manage to support each other, and we allowed a little too much – especially from crosses. We have to improve significantly in that area," he said.

What bothered the Germany captain after the break was that Bayern failed to “control the game” and calm things down.

“I think there would have been quite a lot we could have done. Dortmund gave the ball away easily at times, and we could have made better use of those situations and punished them," he said.
