After two years as an Eintracht Frankfurt player, Rasmus Kristensen is leaving the club.
The Bundesliga outfit announced on Tuesday that the Danish international is returning to FC Midtjylland, where he began his career.
“Rasmus came to us and told us of his wish to return home,” said Eintracht Frankfurt board member for sport Markus Krösche.
“As well as being a very good footballer, he’s also a family man for whom it is very important to be close to his family. It was not easy to let him go, but we had no desire to prevent him from fulfilling his wish and agreed to his departure once we had negotiated with Midtjylland.
"We would like to thank Rasmus for his commitment and wish him all the best for the future in his sporting and his personal life.”
Kristensen, who made 71 appearances for Eintracht Frankfurt with nine goals and four assists to his name, said:
“I felt at home in Frankfurt right from day one and was really made to feel welcome both by the club and the fans. I had a fantastic time here both on and off the pitch, and it’s one that I’ll never forget. My son was born here in Frankfurt and that is something that will always connect us with this fantastic city. It’s bittersweet to be leaving Eintracht – I’ve really come to love the club.
"But at the same time, I want to be much closer to my family again and continue my career back home. I’d really like to thank the management, who have supported me and who are now giving me the opportunity to return to Denmark. A big thank-you also goes to the Eintracht fans, who have shown me a lot of love over the past two years. I’d like to wish everyone here all the best for the future!”
