Hamburger SV have confirmed that Claus Costa will remain as the club’s director of football beyond 2026.
The Bundesliga side did not reveal the length of the 41-year-old's new contract.
“Over the last 18 months or so, I’ve been more than convinced by Claus’ know-how and the work he’s done here – both through his incredible understanding of the market and his extensive network in the field, as well as through his day-to-day involvement with the team, defined by the values of diligence and teamwork,” commented HSV board member for sport Stefan Kuntz.
“Claus has made a vital contribution to the club’s achievement of a return to the Bundesliga and, more recently, played a huge role in a successful rebuild of the squad in a very short period. I’ve been confident for a while now that it would be the best move to extend his tenure.”
Claus Costa, who took over the job in March 2023, added:
“It remains an absolute privilege to have the opportunity to carry out this role and represent a club of such immense stature as HSV. I can actively feel the significant degree of trust placed in me by Stefan, from whose incredible wealth of experience I profit every day.
"Our goal-oriented work beyond just the demands of the transfer window and the open, occasionally contentious, but always constructive exchanges that we share throughout the year are things that I treasure deeply."
