Bayern star Lennart Karl wrote German football history against Atalanta

Lennart Karl wrote German football history in Bayern Munich's 4-1 Champions League round of 16 win over Atalanta on Wednesday.

Having turned 18 last month, Karl became the youngest German – and Bayern player – to both score and provide an assist in a single Champions League match.

Karl wasn't the only Bayern player to set a milestone. At 16 years, 1 month and 27 days old, Filip Pavic became the youngest player to ever feature for FC Bayern in the Champions League when he came on in the second half.

Alongside Pavic, 18-year-old Deniz Ofli also made his professional debut on the night. His standout moment came shortly after coming on, when he won possession and initiated the move that led to Bayern’s third goal.

Board member for sport Max Eberl praised both debutants after the match, saying: 

“Both of them fit in really well; there was no noticeable drop in quality.”
