Harry Kane was not in the England squad for their 1-0 defeat to Japan tonight due to a 'minor issue' suffered in training, the BBC reported.

Senior football correspondent, Sami Mokbel, understands that the issue is not a serious one for the 32-year-old marksman.

The English Football Association also confirmed that Kane is receiving further assessment on the issue picked up in training.

Speaking before their game tonight, England's head coach Thomas Tuchel said the striker's problem effectively came out of the blue

“It’s a minor injury from basically out of nothing. He had to step out of training yesterday after 15 minutes. No chance to be involved, not even today.

“He is being further assessed now. It’s serious enough not to play [tonight] and we will await further assessment,” he told ITV.

Bayern Munich will undoubtedly be sweating over his fitness ahead of their Bundesliga return which sees them face SC Freiburg on Saturday.
