Daniel Heuer Fernandes will remain Hamburger SV’s first-choice goalkeeper for the new Bundesliga season.
Daniel Peretz has arrived on loan from Bayern Munich to provide competition, but the 32-year-old will keep his place between the posts, head coach Merlin Polzin announced on Friday.
“‘Ferro’ will start in goal on Sunday,” Polzin said ahead of HSV’s Bundesliga opener against Borussia Mönchengladbach.
“He goes into the season as number one and will represent us in goal.
"Over the course of the season, as with every other position, we expect maximum performance from everyone to earn and maintain their spot.”
32-year-old Daniel Heuer Fernandes has made 157 appearances for HSV in the past.
