Almost two years after his last Bundesliga appearance, Timo Werner made his long-awaited return to Germany’s top flight, coming on in stoppage time during RB Leipzig’s 1–0 win over VfL Wolfsburg on Saturday.

Werner, who has scored 113 goals in 214 games for Leipzig, spent one and a half years on loan at Tottenham before returning to the Red Bull Arena this summer - and the fans were delighted to see him back in action.

“He’s a very deserving player,” said Leipzig managing director for sport Marcel Schäfer in a post-match interview.

“He has an incredible scoring record – and the fans appreciate that,” added the Leipzig boss.

With the win on Saturday, Werner and RB Leipzig currently sit third in the Bundesliga.
