Liverpool have been linked with a move for 16-year-old Hertha BSC midfielder Kennet Eichhorn, but according to kicker, the Reds are not in pole position for the youngster.

Rather, the German outlet reports that the battle has developed into a head-to-head race between Bayer Leverkusen and RB Leipzig, with Eichhorn expected to make a decision on his future soon.

Leverkusen are believed to have a strong chance of winning the race for the 16-year-old after presenting Carles Martinez as their new coach last week.

According to Kicker, Eichhorn waited for Leverkusen’s new head coach to be appointed and is believed to have already held talks with the Spaniard.

Eichhorn's release clause, set at just under €10 million, must be activated before June 15. In addition, a significant signing-on fee would be due to the 16-year-old and his representatives.
