With much devotional fanfare, VfL Bochum announced that they had restructured the contract of their first-choice keeper ahead of schedule. Manuel Riemann should remain in Westphalia through 2025, ostensibly with a significant rise in pay.

"After his consistently solid performances in the 2nd Bundesliga, he has now also proven himself a top keeper in the top flight," VfL sporting director Sebastian Schinzierlorz remarked in a statement, "Manu finished in the top ten keepers in terms of clean sheets kept, keeping seven  of them in one of the best leagues in the world. He's one of our team's 'go-to-players'"

"The Bundesliga was always a dream of mine," said the 33-year-old, who only made his top-flight debut last year, said in his own statement, "I've become a Bundesliga goalkeeper and I know that I can hold my own there. The desire to keep the VfL in the Bundesliga remains very strong. In that regard., I will continue to do everything I can to live up to the expectations placed on me."

Riemann has made 218 competitive performances for Bochum, dating back to 2015. Along with SC Freiburg's Mark Flekken, he was considered one of the standout (and surprising) performers at his position last season in many German footballing circles.
