Sport1 and Sky Sport Germany unanimously report that 'Die Fohlen' are expected to seal deal to land the 25-year-old on a four-year deal, with only minor details left to be clarified.
The 25-year-old centre-back has been lined up to replace Matthias Ginter, who has departed Borussia-Park to join Freiburg.
Itakura spent last season on loan at Schalke 04 and was key to the Gelsenkirchen club's promotion to the Bundesliga.
