Germany stage late comeback to earn 3-3 draw against Ukraine

Late goals from Kai Havertz and Joshua Kimmich saved Germany's blushes as Hansi Flick's side mounted a late comeback to earn a 3-3 draw against Ukraine.

In their 1000th match of all time, Germany were two goals down in a charity match against Ukraine, but came from behind to salvage a 3-3 draw in a goal-fest at Bremen's Weserstadion.

Hansi Flick's side got off to a flying start, striking first after just six minutes when Marius Wolf's deflected shot deflected off Niclas Füllkrug and into the back of the net.

However, after a promising start to the game for Germany, Ukraine pulled themselves level through Viktor Tsygankov, who finished off a counter-attack with a ruthless finish into the far corner in the 19th minute.

Three minutes later, Ukraine took the lead. After stealing the ball from the German defense, the visitors found Mykhaylo Mudryk, whose shot hit Antonio Rüdiger and went in.

Things went from bad to worse for Germany after the break when the Ukrainians took advantage of a mistake by Matthias Ginter to get on the scoresheet for the third time. Artem Dovbyk stole the ball from the Freibrug defender before finding Tsygankov, who scored his second of the evening from close range in the 56th minute.

As the game wore on, an away win looked increasingly likely, but Kai Havertz pulled one back for the Germans, getting his head to the ball before calmly slotting it past the goalkeeper.

Then, in stoppage time, Germany sealed their comeback when Joshua Kimmich scored from a penalty awarded to Kai Havertz.
