Huge increase in Bundesliga attendances

There has been a huge increase in the number of Bundesliga spectators per game on average. The 2017/18 season is the second most attended Bundesliga season ever.

The German Bundesliga remains the most attended football league in the world.

According to numbers from the Deutsche Fussball Liga (DFL), 43.879 tickets were used per match on average during the 2017/18 season - the second highest number of used tickets since the first Bundesliga season in 1963/64. The number includes free tickets for instance, but unused tickets are not considered.

Only the 2011/12 season (44.293 on average) had more spectators. In the previous season (2016/17), 40.693 tickets were used on average which means there has been an eight percent increase.

However, there has been a decrease in the 2. Bundesliga. An average of 17.743 ticket holders were registrered during the 2017/18 season while there were 21.650 spectators on average during the 2016/17 season.

In comparison, according to Worldfootball.net, there were 38.297 spectators per match on average for the English Premier League games during the 2017/18 season.
