Silas Wamangituka has explained himself following VfB Stuttgart's 2-1 victory over Werder Bremen in the Bundesliga on Saturday, which saw the Congolese forward booked for unsportsmanlike conduct after his second goal.

Wamangituka capitalised on a mistake from the Werder defence to make it 2-0 after he was allowed to dribble towards an empty net from some 30 yards out. Instead of scoring straight away, Wamangituka waited until Werder goalkeeper Jiri Pavlenka hurried him up before putting the ball over the line.

The Congolese forward has received plenty of criticism for his action, which has been described as 'disrespectful' by Bremen's Davie Selke.

Wamangituka, however, insists he didn't mean to show disrespect to his opponent.

"I have respect for my opponent in every phase of the game. With my second goal, I wanted to win as much time as possible for my team in this important game. I didn't want to provoke the Bremen goalkeeper and my opponent in any way," the Stuttgart player stated in an Instagram post.
